William "BIll" Crowell

William “Bill” Joseph Crowell passed away on June 22, 2026 at the age of 81 in Sherman, Texas. He was born on January 19, 1945, in Springfield, Missouri, to Floyd and Elberta Crowell.

Bill lived a life of quiet dedication, hard work, and a deep faith in the Lord. A proud native of Missouri, he graduated from Hillcrest High School in Springfield in 1963. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force in July 1966. Over the course of his four-year enlistment, he worked skillfully as an Aircrew Egress Systems Repairman and demonstrated exceptional leadership, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant in just three years before his honorable discharge in July 1970.

Following his military service, Bill channeled his technical talents into a successful 34-year career as a mechanical pipe designer. He worked on projects for Procter & Gamble (Folgers Coffee), Texas Instruments, Rockwell International, Industrial Design Corporation, and Motorola.

A true classic car guru, Bill loved restoring classic cars, watching NASCAR, and he never met something that he couldn't fix. He was a loving father, devoted brother, and a proud and doting “Big Gramps” who loved nothing more than watching his grandchildren grow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Crowell and Elberta (Hutson) Crowell; his daughter, Natalie Anne Crowell; and his sister, Carol Anne Clark.

He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Anne Thompson and her husband Blake, of Murphy, Texas; his four grandchildren, Kailey, Zackary, Mackenzie, and Clay; his brother-in-law, Larry Clark of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and his two brothers, Stanley Crowell and his wife Sherri of Springfield, Missouri, and David Crowell and his wife Karen of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Bill will be laid to rest with military honors at Dallas-Ft Worth National Cemetery in the fall.

I usually got a email message every year in September from Bill. I just happened to think about him and realized the last message was in January. I knew he was battling the same issues my sister had and I was saddened to hear about his passing when I checked. I met Bill when he was a friend and caregiver for my sister, Becky, back in 2017. I spent time with them at Bill’s beautiful home. Even though my sister was currently in hospice, we had some great talks and quite a few laughs. He was an amazing caregiver to my sister. I remember he had sticky notes all over the place as reminders of things. In that short visit we just got along so well and I will be forever thankful what he did for my sister. Rest in Peace Bill. You were an amazing man. My condolences to his family.
